Treatment Overview and Specializations
Therapy overview
In my psychotherapy sessions I utilize therapeutic techniques including cognitive re-framing, insight-oriented therapy, guided relaxation, motivational interviewing, and other evidence-based practices.
When appropriate, I also use well-tested, standard assessments to aid assessment and treatment.

No single therapy approach fits everyone equally well, and tailoring treatment to individuals is a skill refined with experience.
Individual and Couple Sessions
Individual: These are one-on-one sessions focusing on yourself. They are conducted weekly or twice weekly for 45-50 minutes. The frequency of the sessions depends on your goals and needs and is discussed during treatment.

Couple: These sessions focus on exploring and identifying relationship issues and concerns between you and your partner and possible ways to overcome them. The sessions are conducted weekly with you and your partner for 75-90 min.
Areas of Specialization & Expertise
Addiction: I have been working in the addiction field, as a therapist and clinical researcher at Columbia University Medical Center, for over two decades. I specialize in developing tailored treatments for individuals with drinking problems, stimulants like cocaine and marijuana. Recognizing the complexity of addiction including the pain and often the shame, I work closely and patiently with my patients, helping them maintain sobriety and develop better ways of coping with different life challenges than turning into alcohol or drugs.

Other areas of my expertise include:
-
Mood and Anxiety Disorders (e.g., Depression, Anxiety)
-
Behavioral and Emotional issues (work and environmental demand; cultural adaptations)
-
Relationship difficulties and marital issues (including heterosexuals and LGBT).
